Garden Project

One project we've worked on since our move to Fayetteville has been our garden.  Corey has been talking about building a raised garden for a while, so we took advantage of the long Labor Day weekend at the beginning of the month and built the frame.  Wesley was a big helper - I'm pretty sure I took way more pictures of him than I did the actual project, but you'll get the idea :)  Not sure what we'll plant first - any suggestions for a winter crop?

9 Months!!

Our little guy is 9 months old today!  Its amazing to think in just 3 short months he will be a year old.  I wish I could just reach out and make time stand still!  This is such a fun age to experience as a new parent - but of course we look forward to watching him continue to grow and learn, and become the person he is meant to be.  Here's whats going on with our pride and joy:

Wesley stats:
  • Head circumference -18.5in (80%)
  • Weight -21.4lbs (50%)
  • Length -29.5in (80%)
  • Clothes - 12 months in tops and sleepers.  He can still wear 6/9 months in pants/shorts.  Still no shoes, although I'll have to buy him some before too much longer.
  • Food - 4-5 8oz bottles per day and 3 solid feedings, plus a snack.  He pretty much eats all table foods now (I had fun with the Beaba while it lasted!).  Cereal bars, graham crackers, cottage cheese, cubed cheese, & mixed veggies are some of his favorites.  Most of the time for dinner he just eats what we eat. He hasn't gotten any more teeth yet (still just the lower two) but eats a variety of textures, and handles them well.  Hasn't turned his nose up to anything yet - the boy is an eater!
  • Sleep - Sleeping through the night most nights - in the last 6 nights, he has only woken up once in the middle of the night for a bottle.  I'd say 1 out of 6 isn't too bad!
  • Talents/interests - Still crawling all over the place, and pulling up.  He stood for about 5-10 seconds the other night, but I couldn't get him to do it again.  I got him some new 'big boy' toys that he can push and walk behind, and he loves those.  He's re-discovered his pacifier - I guess maybe it helps with teething?  He found a couple I had in his toy box about a month ago, and took to them.  I don't think its for soothing, because he doesn't want them at nap time or at bed time, he just wants to have them when he's playing.  He steals them from the other babies at daycare!  He's just learned how to drink out of a straw thanks to his daddy and a strawberry malt - he couldn't get enough.
Hugs and kisses to our big boy!

No-nos

Just a few of the constant 'battles' we have with a mobile child :)

Dog bowls - he loves to knock Baylee's water bowl over, then splash in the water that is on the tile floor and soaked into the carpet. I, however, do not love it.

Cords - my child has a serious obsession with cords.  He can sniff them out, and wants to pull them, chew on them - whatever he can get away with.  Not good.

Our bedroom closet - and only my side where there are strings/sashes/dresses hanging down that he can reach and pull off the hangers.  Fun for Wesley = work for mommy.

Before and After - Wesley's Room

Since we moved to the new house in mid-June, we've slowly been putting everything in its place and getting decorations up.  Over the Labor Day weekend, Corey and I worked on getting  a couple things done in Wesley's room.

I bought some paper lanterns to hang in the corner above Wesley's crib, sort of like a gigantic mobile.  I got them from Just Artifacts.

Before

After

For the wall above his changing table, I ordered some block letters that spell his name from The Letter Block Shop.  I emailed her a picture of Wesley's bedding, and we communicated back and forth to design the letters.

After

We still need to hang his drapes, and I'm working on painting a shelf that will have pictures and a few small toys on it.  After his room is done, its on to the next project - probably the living room since we are getting our new sofa this weekend!  Yea!!

Football Weekend

This weekend was the first Arkansas Razorback football game & Wesley's first tailgate experience!  It was so much fun, and Wesley had a blast learning to call the Hogs :)

Eating 'Real' Food

Wesley is starting on finger foods, and its going pretty well so far - I was hesitant at first because he only has his two bottom teeth, but babies are surprisingly good at mashing soft foods with their gums (I guess I did not realize this - I just thought he'd choke with no teeth!).  Steamed veggies, wheat toast, and cheese are what we started with.  If we are having something for dinner that he can eat, we'll give him little bites of that as well - for example, we had quiche for dinner and he had small bites of egg and crust.  He's really very interested in food (ha!  Big surprise, right??!?) and gets most of it in his mouth :)

 Going for the good stuff

 What is he looking at?

Big sister Baylee is just waiting for something to fall of his tray....

Minimal damage as far as cleanup - although its probably mostly on him and in his highchair - but I'd say this was a successful dinner!
