First haircut

This past Saturday I took Wesley to get his first official haircut! We went to Pigtails and Crewcuts which is a salon just for kids.  He did great!  I took him first thing in the morning so I knew he'd be in a great mood - the whole thing took about 20 minutes.  He chose to sit in the fire engine, and was really good especially when they gave him animal crackers to sit still :)  We got the 'First Haircut' package where they give you a lock of the child's hair as well as a picture - he looks like such a little man now!

18 Months (a day late)!

*My 18 month post is a day late because we just got our cable fixed this morning so I didn't have internet!  Its a long story, but our power lines were damaged when we rebuilt our privacy fence a few months back, so we were without power all week - then when they were digging the trench to re-lay the power lines, they cut our gas and cable!  Its been a crazy week - but power and gas were back on Friday, then cable today.  We are back in business now :)

So Wesley was officially 18 months old on Saturday!  He is such a little man these days - and a mini-me of his daddy :)

Wesley stats:
  • Head Circumference - 19.5 in (80%)
  • Weight - 27 lbs (60%)
  • Length - 34 in (80%)
  • Clothes -18-24 month/2T in clothes (depending on the brand) and size 6 shoes
  • Food - He's getting the hang of eating with a fork although sometimes he just smashes the food instead of stabbing it :)  He's not a big fan of his vegetables right now - or trying any new foods unless he does it himself.
  • Sleep - Normally sleeps though the night, but his past week with no power has been rough on him (and us) - he woke up several times each night standing up and crying in his crib (we think b/c of the portable AC units we had - they were loud and had lights ).  He is quickly outgrowing his crib, so I'm going to start looking for toddler beds soon.
  • Talents/interests - LOVES the pool and water this summer!  He has water days at his preschool, and all the teachers say he is so much fun to watch because he just enjoys it so much :)  He is really into riding toys right now.  Anything that has wheels he makes the classic 'brmmmm' motor noise to and points at it so we are aware he has spotted it.  He is becoming quite the chatterbox and while I'm sure he knows exactly what he is saying, we don't always know!  He has learned to say 'please' when he wants something (instead of just whining for it) - although if he still doesn't get it after he says please he doesn't understand why not!
I can't believe you are already a year and half old - what an incredible experience you have made parenting so far!

Fathers Day

From the beginning, he's wanted to be just like you - and what a man he's got to look up to!  We love you so much honey - thanks for being such a great daddy :)

Recent projects

We took advantage of the long Memorial Day weekend and had some (much needed) projects done around the house - I wish I had thought to take 'before' pictures for these, but just know that the 'after' version is much better than the 'before'!

Project 1:  Had our brick fireplace and the insert painted.  The brick was the same as the exterior of the house, and was too dark against our neutral walls.  The mantel was just wood.  We had the brick painted the color of the walls, and the mantel painted the color of the trim that is throughout the rest of the house.  The fireplace insert had been black with gold facing, and it is now solid black.

Project 2:  Had the linen closet at the end of the hallway painted.  This was just wood closet, and also stuck out against our neutral walls.  We had this painted the color of the trim that is thoughout the house, and changed out all the old 1970's hardware.

Project 3:  The big one!  We had all the landscaping done in our back yard around the pool.  The pictures really speak for themselves here - it made a huge difference.  You might recall when we tore out all the old bushes eariler this spring in this post.  We had someone come and remove all the stumps that we were not able to get out ourselves.  They also preped the beds then planted all the new trees/bushes/flowers, and mulched everything.  It looks like a whole new yard!
